Jenna’s 45-Minute Hypnobabies Home Waterbirth

“My husband got the birth tub partially filled and I got in. I had probably about 5 waves in there before I felt a bunch of pressure. I got into the squat position and immediately pushed out the head. One more gentle push and she was here at 1:28!”

I just had my baby and I’m still awake because of all the excitement. I had been having pre-birthing waves (Hypnobabies term for contractions) every night since 34ish weeks and losing mucus plug every once in a while, since then and today wasn’t any different at 40+4.

My friend/birth photographer texted me before I went to bed saying she had a feeling that my birthing time (Hypnobabies term for labor) would happen tonight because we were heading into a huge snowstorm. I told her nothing was going on so probably not.

Well, I woke up at 12:46am to a super strong wave that made me gasp. I jumped out of bed and woke my husband up telling him to call the midwives because this is for sure my birthing time starting. I started listening to Fear Clearing session (Hypnobabies track to release fear) because I was feeling the fear creep up at how fast this was all moving.

It was nothing like my previous Hypnobabies birth that started much slower and lasted a little over 3 hours. These waves were long, strong and almost no time in between them. I was already feeling like I didn’t know how I could go on with this level of intensity for hours.

My husband got the birth tub partially filled and I got in. I had probably about 5 waves in there before I felt a bunch of pressure. I got into the squat position and immediately pushed out the head. One more gentle push and she was here at 1:28!

So, about a 45-minute birthing time with an unassisted birth since no one made it in time! I didn’t feel like I was fully able to get into the hypnosis but was able to use my Peace cue (Hypnobabies cue for instant physical comfort) throughout as my husband used the Relax cue (Hypnobabies cue to deepen hyposis) which helped tremendously. Hypnobabies for the win again!
