The sunbittern (Eurypyga helias) is a bird resembling a bittern and is native to tropical regions of the Americas.

It is the only member of the family Eurypygidae (sometimes spelled Eurypigidae) and the genus Eurypyga.

The sunbittern can be found in Central and South America, and it consists of three ѕᴜЬѕрeсіeѕ. Both morphologically and genetically, the sunbittern shares similarities with the kagu (Rhynochetos jubatus) from New Caledonia, suggesting a Gondwanic origin.

These two ѕрeсіeѕ are classified within the clade Eurypygiformes.
