In Real Madrid’s recent win over Leganes, midfielder Federico Valverde wore the Royal captain’s armband for the first time in his career.
In round 14 of La Liga, Real Madrid bowed to opponent Leganes. Royal easily won 3-0 to hit three points. With this victory, Ancelotti and his team are now only 4 points closer to Barcelona, but have played 1 match less.
This match for Valverde welcomed great glory, when he first appeared on the field with the Real Madrid captaincy. The Uruguayan star not only contributed quietly as always, but also scored a goal from a beautiful long range goal.
After the match, Valverde expressed joy, according to Madrid Universal: “I’m very happy that I fulfilled another dream at the team. My wife was here today. I really want my children to be here, my parents to be here, those are the people who have always been by my side throughout my career.”
In the match against Leganes, Valverde did not play in his natural position but switched to right back. He revealed that he had to study and learn from teammates Lucas Vazquez and Dani Carvajal. “I really like this position today,” Valverde said of the new position. I can do whatever the coach wants and whatever Real Madrid asks.
I tried to watch a lot of videos, a lot of matches of other teammates, especially Lucas’s playing style, Carvajal’s playing style. Obviously I can’t compare to them, but I tried my best in my new position and was useful to the team.”
Teammate Dani Ceballos also congratulated Valverde: “I want to congratulate him on his first match as captain of Real Madrid. No matter where he plays, he always brings success and plays great. He is a great inspiration for his teammates.”
