Meet Pitufo, a 14-year-old dog from Argentina who waited over a decade for the love and family he always deserved. Against all odds, a few weeks ago, Pitufo finally stepped into his dream home.
Silvana, cofounder of Corazón Animal in Moreno, Buenos Aires, describes his adoption as nothing short of miraculous. When Pitufo arrived at the shelter in 2012 at around 5 years old, he faced many hurdles. Being an adult dog made him less “adoptable,” and the shelter’s limited reach meant fewer people knew about him.
Back then, we were a small organization, social media wasn’t really around, and it was tough to find homes for our dogs,” Silvana told The Dodo. Even families who showed interest often didn’t meet her strict adoption requirements. For Silvana, her dogs are like her own children, and she was determined to find Pitufo the perfect family, no matter how long it took.
Years passed, but Silvana never gave up. On August 9, 2023, Pitufo finally met Estefanía and Sebastián, a loving couple who would become his new parents. He even gained a little feline sister to share his new home with.
Despite spending his whole life in a shelter, Pitufo adapted to his new home instantly. “We expected it to take some time, but he bonded with us and his sister right away,” said Estefanía and Sebastián. Now, he enjoys daily walks, cuddles, and the comfort of a family he never had before.
Silvana admits she misses seeing Pitufo at the shelter, but she couldn’t be happier. “It was the best decision,” she says. “Now Pitufo is incredibly happy, and that’s all that matters.” 🐶💖
