Cleveland Metroparks Zoo has a new little star! In February, the zoo welcomed Indrah, a two-month-old Malayan tiger cub from Tulsa Zoo in Oklahoma, to join two Amur tiger cubs born just a couple of months earlier.

Since her arrival, Indrah has quickly settled in, forming a sweet bond with her new feline siblings and stepping into the role of a caring “big sister.”
Zoo Executive Director Chris Kuhar shared his delight:
“You never know how cubs will get along—especially tigers—but they’re acting like they’ve been siblings all along.” 🐾

Both the Amur and Malayan tiger mothers lacked maternal instincts, which put the cubs at risk. After consulting with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), it was decided that Indrah would thrive most by joining the Amur cubs in Cleveland.
“Raising the cubs together in one big group allows us to provide the best care and socialization for all three,” Kuhar explains. Despite being from different subspecies, the hand-reared tigers are learning important social and behavioral skills together.

Once they are strong and independent, the cubs will move into the Rosebrough Tiger Passage as their permanent home. This early socialization helps them develop natural “tiger behavior” essential for their growth, and for potential breeding programs.
