A mare who suffered the heartbreak of losing her own foal has found a second chance at motherhood by adopting a malnourished young foal.
Citty, the mare, lost her baby when it was born stillborn, leaving her without a little one to care for. Just two days later, a male foal also lost his mother to colic and was left weak and in desperate need of care.
Seeing the parallel loss, Citty’s owners, Iris and Sanne, decided to give her the opportunity to become a foster mother. The reunion between mare and foal was captured on TikTok, quickly touching hearts around the world.
Follow-up videos show the duo frolicking in the arena, playing and enjoying each other’s company. It’s evident that both mare and foal share a deep, affectionate connection, moving thousands of viewers to tears.
One TikTok user wrote, “I’m crying, this makes me so happy but so sad at the same time. She is such a good momma.” Another added, “You can see the love in her eyes… we don’t deserve such beautiful creatures!”
While Citty’s own foal now rests in horsey heaven, her heart has grown wide enough to care for another, giving both her and the young foal a renewed sense of hope and love.
