The Bornean Bristlehead is a unique and fascinating bird species found on the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia. It belongs to the family Pityriasidae, and it’s the only member of its genus, Pityriasis.
This bird has a distinct appearance with a bare blue face, bristle-like feathers on its head, and a black body with white patches on its wings and tail.
Bristleheads are primarily insectivorous, feeding on a variety of insects, larvae, and other small invertebrates found in the forest canopy. They often forage in mixed-species flocks with other bird species, which can include bulbuls, barbets, and leafbirds.
These birds are known for their loud and distinctive calls, which can be heard echoing through the rainforest. They inhabit lowland and hill forests, and their populations are primarily threatened by habitat loss due to deforestation. Conservation efforts are in place to protect the remaining habitats of the Bornean Bristlehead.
