From Misery to Hope: The Incredible Journey of a Sick Dog with No Nose and Broken Teeth”
An unwell pet dog who lost his nose after being attacked by other dogs is now seeking a home. Thanks to a local newspaper article, he has received numerous potential adoptive parents.
The dog, named Sniffles, has had a challenging life so far. He was abandoned in Puerto Rico, where he was attacked by stray dogs and suffered from various illnesses. It is believed that Sniffles had terrible living conditions in Puerto Rico, resulting in whipworms, hookworms, and other parasites, as well as dental issues.
Furthermore, he no longer has a nose because of attacks by other stray dogs, leaving him with multiple wounds and health problems.
After being discovered by a local rescue group in Puerto Rico, he was finally adopted by a family in the US, where it was hoped he would receive better medical care.
However, since traveling to the US for treatment and his story being shared by a Florida-based animal rescue, Sniffles has significantly improved and may soon find a permanent home. Unfortunately, his first adoption was short-lived due to his ongoing medical needs and tendency to escape.
He was eventually adopted by Poodle and Pooch Rescue in Florida, a volunteer-run group that saves 500-600 dogs annually. They immediately began searching for a home for him. As a result, his story was featured on WESH, an Orlando news station, on December 24.
Since then, Sniffles’ luck has changed. His story has spread, and at least 100 people have expressed interest in adopting him by calling the shelter.
He will require an adopter who is committed to cleaning his nasal passage twice daily and providing him with daily eye drops for a condition called dry eye, according to Rebecca Lynch, a spokesperson for the shelter.
Sniffles had a significant parasite infestation, including whipworms and hookworms, indicating unsanitary living conditions before being taken into their care. He also tested positive for the tick-borne illness Ehrlichia but is receiving treatment and expected to fully recover.
Despite his challenges, Sniffles remains resilient and enjoys the company of people. He has shown signs of coming out of his shell, cuddles, wags his tail, spends time outside, gets along with other dogs, and makes sweet grunting sounds due to his condition, according to Lynch.
