Forward Julian Alvarez wants to leave Man City, with his top priority being a move to Real Madrid, but it’s proving difficult in the summer of 2024.
According to The Athletic, Alvarez is keen to depart Man City in the summer of 2024 and has signaled interest to other clubs. Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, and PSG are all interested in the Argentine forward, with Man City seeking a fee in the region of $90 million. However, no club has made an offer to the Manchester-based club. Alvarez’s preference is to join Real, although his reason for leaving Man City is to seek more playing opportunities rather than being a backup to Erling Haaland in crucial matches.
After signing Kylian Mbappe, Real has no intention of adding another attacking player, with Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo Goes, Endrick, and Jude Bellingham already in their ranks, not to mention backups like Joselu, Brahim Diaz, and Arda Guler. President Florentino Perez also plans to bring Florian Wirtz from Leverkusen in the summer of 2025.
Alvarez has dreamt of joining Real since he was young. Before joining River Plate’s academy at the age of 16, he had a trial with Real and scored two goals in five matches in a youth tournament. However, the Spanish club didn’t want to sign Alvarez officially at that time, leading him to return to River Plate.
Another possibility for Alvarez to join Real is if Rodrygo decides to leave. However, the 23-year-old forward previously stated after winning the Champions League in 2024 that he has no reason to leave the Royal Club. Alvarez will have to wait for his chance with Real.
Alvarez played 54 games for Man City last season, including 36 Premier League matches. However, he was benched in important games, such as both legs of the quarterfinals against Real and the final matches of the Premier League season. The 24-year-old forward has won numerous major titles in his career, such as the World Cup, Copa America, Champions League, Premier League, and Copa Libertadores. If he joins Real, his tally of major titles could significantly increase.
