Mbappe doesn’t conceal his ambition to claim prestigious individual and collective honors with the French national team. Recently, forward Kylian Mbappe sat down for interviews with CNN and BeIN Sport regarding the EURO 2024 campaign with the French national team. According to the 25-year-old forward, he wants to dedicate himself fully to the tournament as EURO is the only title he lacks at the national team level, following the World Cup and UEFA Nations League championships:
“I have to be honest that I want to win EURO. I’ve won the World Cup, Nations League, so this is the only title that I remember missing after doing everything for the national team.”
On June 18th at 2 p.m., the French national team will kick off their group stage match against the Austrian team. Mbappe emphasized the importance of this match for himself, the team, and the homeland fans: “I want to win the opening match. As captain, the match is really important to me, to the country, the fans, and we want them to be proud of the whole team.”
At EURO 2020, Mbappe and the French national team were eliminated in the round of 16 against Switzerland after a nerve-wracking penalty shootout. Therefore, the 25-year-old forward is determined to make an impact in his second appearance at the premier European stage for national teams: “In 2021, EURO was held in multiple countries, so everything was really strange. But now, I want to leave my mark on the tournament.”
Also in the interview, Mbappe didn’t forget to mention his goal of winning the Ballon d’Or. With PSG’s unsuccessful campaign in the 2023/24 Champions League, the 25-year-old star only hopes for EURO to compete for the most prestigious individual accolade in football against heavyweight contenders like Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr.
“The Ballon d’Or is still my goal. Since I was young, I’ve always wanted to be the best player in the world. I want to keep improving but never lose the joy of playing football,” Mbappe declared.
