EURO 2024 kicks off tonight (June 14th, into June 15th). The opening match of the tournament, Germany vs Scotland, will take place at 2 a.m. on June 15th (Vietnam time) at Munich Stadium.
Following their failure at the 2022 World Cup (not advancing past the group stage), the German national team embarked on a rebuilding phase under coach Julian Nagelsmann since September 2023. Prior to EURO 2024, the host team had a streak of 4 consecutive unbeaten matches.
However, the performance of the German national team hasn’t been enough to reassure fans. Overall, under Coach Nagelsmann, they face a lot of pressure on home turf. They need a good record to regain the reputation of a team that has won the World Cup and EURO titles multiple times in history. Meanwhile, Scotland had a successful first half of the EURO 2024 qualifiers with 5 consecutive victories. The biggest surprise was their 2-0 victory over Spain.
However, Coach Steve Clarke’s team struggled in the latter stage. Scotland only managed 1 victory in the remaining 9 matches (3 draws, 5 losses).
In their 11 previous EURO appearances, the team known as the ‘Tartan Army’ has never advanced beyond the group stage. In terms of head-to-head records with the German national team, Scotland hasn’t won in the last 4 encounters (1 draw, 3 losses).”
