Five-year-old Arthur is a boy full of dreams, laughter, and an unstoppable spirit. He loves to dance, draw, and, most of all, he dreams of being fast, like his hero, Sonic. But while he watches the world race around him, Arthur’s own heart struggles to keep up. Despite enduring more than most adults in a lifetime, this little boy continues to fight for his life. His guitar, his dances, and his dreams of running freely remain on pause as his heart fights a battle it can barely sustain.
Arthur’s story began before he was even born. While still pregnant, his mother, Alexandra, received the heartbreaking news that her unborn son had a congenital heart defect called pulmonary atresia
, a condition where the pulmonary valve, which carries blood from the heart to the lungs, is malformed. It was a shocking diagnosis that no parent ever expects to hear. But as many mothers of children with special needs do, Alexandra pulled herself together and fought for her son’s life. She researched the condition, consulted doctors in Russia and abroad, and eventually traveled to Berlin, where a better chance at saving Arthur’s life seemed possible.

Arthur was born on his due date via cesarean section and was immediately rushed to intensive care. The first three weeks of his life were spent surrounded by tubes and machines, monitoring his oxygen levels and heart rate. His tiny body struggled to survive, but his mother never left his side. Every day, she held him, refusing to leave for fear of disturbing the wires that kept him alive. At just seven days old, Arthur underwent his first surgery—a stent insertion. They were finally allowed to go home, but their new reality was filled with strict medication schedules and constant monitoring.

At just three months old, Arthur’s condition worsened. His oxygen saturation began to drop, and he was hospitalized for another emergency surgery to insert a new stent and perform vascular dilation. After the surgery, Arthur’s condition deteriorated even further. His oxygen levels fluctuated between dangerously low and dangerously high, and for four hours, doctors fought to keep him alive. The fear of losing him was unimaginable, but Arthur fought through it. His mother, heartbroken but hopeful, stood by his side, praying for her son’s survival.
Arthur’s road to recovery was long and difficult, but there were moments of hope. In 2022, Dr. Vitaly Pak in Italy performed a groundbreaking surgery on Arthur, which lasted eight hours. Miraculously, Dr. Pak discovered Arthur’s own pulmonary artery—a crucial vessel that had been overlooked in previous tests. This discovery allowed Arthur to avoid the need for an artificial vessel and gave him a second chance at life. After the surgery, Arthur faced another lengthy recovery, but he did it. He learned to walk again, and the family was overjoyed to see him running, dancing, and playing without the constant fear of seizures or choking.

However, the joy was short-lived. In the summer of 2023, Arthur’s condition worsened again. The stenoses (narrowed blood vessels) returned, and in March 2024, the family’s team in Moscow was only able to correct one of them. The more dangerous stenosis remained, leaving Arthur vulnerable to serious complications. In September 2025, Arthur underwent a full examination at the Ospedale del Cuore clinic in Italy, where new stenoses were discovered. This was the moment that changed everything: Arthur needs surgery by February 2026 to survive. Without it, his heart may not endure.
Today, Arthur is suffering from shortness of breath, coughing until he vomits, and turning blue. His body has learned to work harder than it should, and while his spirit remains strong, his heart is giving out. Dr. Pak, who has been monitoring Arthur’s case for years, warns that without immediate intervention, Arthur’s heart could fail. The treatment Arthur needs is available only at the Ospedale del Cuore, but the cost is prohibitively high. His family, already overwhelmed by the burden of his ongoing medical care, cannot afford the surgery on their own.
