Detroit, MI – October 26, 2025
The NFL has lost one of its most respected figures in the trenches. Former Lions and Jets legend Nick Mangold has passed away at the age of 41 after a long, courageous battle with chronic kidney disease, both teams confirmed on Sunday.
Mangold died Saturday night due to complications from the illness, which he had been battling for nearly 19 years while undergoing dialysis. Despite his health challenges, he remained a symbol of perseverance, humility, and heart — qualities that defined his life on and off the field.
Best known for his 11 exceptional seasons with the New York Jets, Mangold also spent time with the Detroit Lions practice squad, where his leadership and professionalism left a lasting impression on coaches and teammates. Lions head coach
Dan Campbell praised him as “a man whose presence could elevate an entire room.”
Campbell said in a statement:
“Nick embodied everything we believe in here in Detroit — toughness, discipline, and heart. Even during his short time with us, he set an example for younger players about what it means to fight, not just in football but in life.”
Jets chairman Woody Johnson added:
“Nick was more than a legendary center — he was the heartbeat of our offensive line and a beloved teammate whose leadership defined an era of Jets football.”
Mangold’s career was one of consistency and dominance: a seven-time Pro Bowler, two-time All-Pro, and a member of the Jets Ring of Honor (inducted 2022). Earlier this year, he was named a
nominee for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026, a testament to his enduring legacy.
A first-round pick out of Ohio State in 2006, Mangold anchored the Jets’ offensive line for over a decade, helping power some of the franchise’s best seasons of the 2000s.
Earlier this month, Mangold had spoken openly about his health battle, writing:
“After a rough summer, I’m undergoing dialysis and searching for a kidney donor. I’ve always known this day would come, but I thought I’d have more time.”
Both the Lions and Jets, along with the Ohio State football program, released tributes on Sunday morning, remembering Mangold not only for his dominance on the field but for his compassion, humor, and leadership beyond it.
Nick is survived by his wife, Jenny, and their four children — Matthew, Eloise, Thomas, and Charlotte.

3 Broncos Players Fined Ahead of Cowboys Game — NFL Denies Appeal as Giants Player Escapes Punishment for Broncos Incident

.

Denver, CO – The NFL has officially announced fines for three Denver Broncos players —
Dre Greenlaw, Justin Strnad, and Riley Moss — following last week’s dramatic 33–32 win over the New York Giants. The timing couldn’t be worse, as the Broncos now prepare to face the Dallas Cowboys in Week 8 without one of their top defensive leaders.
Dre Greenlaw, who confronted referee Brad Allen after the Giants game, has been suspended one game without pay, an appeal that the league swiftly denied. NFL EVP Troy Vincent emphasized that Greenlaw’s suspension serves as “an example” for players across all levels of football, citing the need to uphold respect toward officials.
Meanwhile, Justin Strnad was fined $15,486 for making contact with the same referee moments before the Greenlaw incident, and Riley Moss received an $8,253 fine for an unnecessary roughness/facemask penalty in the third quarter.
Head coach Sean Payton was vocal about his frustration with the officiating, calling one late-game call “silly” and “flat-out wrong.” Still, the Broncos must move forward without distractions as they chase their sixth win of the season.
What’s stirring controversy is that no Giants player faced any punishment from the same heated matchup, sparking anger among Broncos fans who claim the NFL is applying a double standard.
Despite the discipline, Denver’s front office remains defiant. One team executive reportedly stated: “You can fine us, you can flag us, but you can’t slow us down. No whistle, no penalty, no setback is going to stop the Denver Broncos from going after the Super Bowl.”
As Week 8 looms, the message from Denver is clear — fines or not, the Broncos are charging forward, fueled by belief, unity, and a relentless hunger for redemption.
