A recent video from the Kluang Johor Stray Dog Home has captured hearts worldwide. The clip shows a desperate mother dog clinging to a man’s legs, seemingly begging him not to abandon her and her five newborn puppies. Despite her frantic pleas, the man shook her off and drove away, leaving the family behind.

Shelter staff quickly rescued the abandoned dogs and rushed them to a veterinarian. Initially feared to have breast cancer, the mother dog was later diagnosed with pyometra, a severe uterine infection requiring surgery once her puppies finish nursing. The tiny pups, with eyes still closed, will also need future sterilization to prevent health complications.
The shelter, already caring for over a thousand animals and struggling financially—especially due to pandemic-related donation declines—was suddenly faced with a heavier burden. Staff launched a heartfelt social media appeal, calling on friends, strangers, and compassionate followers to donate whatever they could. Every contribution, no matter how small, could help save lives.

The response has been overwhelming, with countless supporters sharing the story and helping however possible. Yet the journey has been painful; tragically, two of the puppies did not survive.
The man responsible has since apologized, explaining that the dogs were strays and he could not care for them due to financial hardship. Still, the mother dog and her surviving puppies remain at the shelter, receiving love, care, and a second chance at life.
