An image that has gone viral on social media has melted millions of hearts: a tiny, orphaned baby elephant, curled up under a colorful blanket like a newborn baby.
According to rescuers, the poor elephant was found shivering in the cold night after losing its mother in a horrific poaching incident. When it was brought to the care center, it was so weak that it could not stand up. Volunteers covered it with a warm blanket, with a hand-embroidered elephant image – as a way to comfort it.
What touched everyone most was the moment the elephant stretched out its tiny trunk to grasp the caretaker’s hand before falling asleep peacefully – the first time it felt safe since its birth.
