According to the Week 6 discipline report, three Lions players have been fined, while no Chiefs players received any penalty for their involvement in the postgame altercation.
Safety Brian Branch has been suspended for one game following his confrontation with Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, an incident that went viral after cameras caught Branch striking JuJu after the final whistle. Additionally,
linebacker Alex Anzalone was fined $12,172 and defensive lineman Tyler Lacy was fined $5,722 for unnecessary roughness.
What has Lions fans enraged is the league’s decision to let JuJu Smith-Schuster walk away scot-free despite apparent video evidence showing an illegal block from behind earlier in the game. The NFL ruled that JuJu’s hit did
not violate any rule.
Detroit attempted to appeal the disciplinary decisions, but the NFL officially denied all appeals, solidifying Branch’s suspension and the fines for Anzalone and Lacy.
Fans immediately took to social media to express their frustration. One Lions supporter posted,
“Branch gets suspended, Anzalone gets fined, but JuJu gets nothing? This league is a joke.”
Head coach Dan Campbell responded to the decision with a fiery statement that perfectly captured Detroit’s defiant spirit:
“You can fine us, suspend us, or twist the rules — it won’t break us. We’ve been fighting uphill since day one, and we’ll keep biting kneecaps all the way to the Super Bowl.”
The NFL confirmed that all fine money will go to the Professional Athletes Foundation and the NFL Foundation, but that did little to calm Detroit’s anger.
As the Lions prepare for their
Monday night clash against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the message from Campbell’s locker room is clear — they may feel wronged, but they’re not backing down.
This team isn’t crying over penalties. They’re sharpening their teeth for payback.
