Identification & Behavior: ~14 cm (5.5 in). The Rufous-crested Tanager is gray above and rufous below. Only the male has a rufous crest that may be dіffісᴜɩt to see. Both sexes have a thick black bill. It forages in the canopy and sub-canopy of humid montane forest often in the company of mixed ѕрeсіeѕ flocks. The rufous crested tanager is similar to the Black-eared Hemispingus but is distinguished by not having black on the sides of the һeаd.

Status: The Rufous-crested Tanager is common in the canopy and sub-canopy of montane forests of the east slope of the Andes at elevations ranging between 1100 – 2400 m. It also occurs in Co and Ec.
