Miracle Quadruplets: Mom Who Lost Four Babies Welcomes Rare Identical Quads

After years of heartbreak and loss, Karissa Vancamp-Smith becomes a mother to rare identical quadruplet boys, sharing a story of resilience, hope, and joy.

After years of heartbreak, Karissa Vancamp-Smith and her husband Dillon experienced a miracle that few families ever do. Having lost four babies over the course of eight years, the couple had endured unimaginable grief. But in December 2021, a private scan revealed something that took their breath away: they were expecting four babies.

Karissa’s journey began in 2014, when twin boys Lucas and Ryan were lost prematurely. Subsequent pregnancies brought joy but also tragedy: Tyler, their healthy son, was born in 2015, but twin sons Elijah and Colton arrived too early in 2017, and only Colton survived after a 132-day hospital stay, later diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Another loss followed in 2019 with baby Willa Grace at 14 weeks.

With a history of preterm births and an incompetent cervix, Karissa approached this pregnancy cautiously. Regular check-ups and 10 days in hospital kept both parents hopeful but nervous. Then came the astonishing news: not only were they expecting quadruplets, but all four boys were identical, sharing a single placenta—a rare occurrence that stunned their doctors.

On June 17, 2022, Karissa delivered Zackariah Dever (2lb 15oz), Lincoln Jesse (2lb 6oz), Ian Shane (2lb 6oz), and Daniel Robert (2lb) via C-section at 29 weeks. After seven weeks in hospital, all four boys came home healthy, joining older brothers Tyler and Colton. “Each of my boys has such a distinct personality, even though they look so much alike,” Karissa shared.

Today, as the quadruplets approach their second birthday, the Vancamp-Smith household is full of noise, laughter, and love. While they honor the memory of Lucas, Ryan, Elijah, and Willa Grace with memorial trees, Karissa beams at the joy her six sons bring. “After all the loss we’ve endured, our family finally feels complete,” she said.

This story is a testament to resilience, hope, and the incredible miracles that life can bring—even after unimaginable heartbreak.
