[Video] Meet Naya and Her Playful Amur Tiger Cubs!

Just in time for World Tiger Day on July 29, Naya, a seven-year-old Amur tiger, introduced her four one-month-old cubs to the public at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo in Bedfordshire.

With fewer than 500 Amur tigers left in the wild, these cubs belong to one of the world’s most endangered tiger species. Visitors were delighted to watch Naya and her playful cubs frolicking in the warm sunshine, exploring their enclosure under her careful guidance.

Donovan Glyn, team leader at the zoo, shared his excitement: “Seeing all four of these endangered cubs playing together is the perfect way to kick off the summer at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo.”

Born just 16 weeks after Naya met her mate, Botzman, the cubs are slowly getting used to their new environment with Naya patiently showing them the ropes. Her attentive care ensures each cub gains confidence while exploring.

These young tigers are part of the European Endangered Species Breeding Programme (EEP), dedicated to increasing populations of rare animals across European zoos. Amur tigers faced near extinction in the 1940s, with fewer than 50 individuals left. Thanks to ongoing conservation efforts, their numbers have now grown more than tenfold.
