Four rare and irresistibly adorable white tiger cubs, born just over a month ago, made their first public appearance at Tokyo’s Tobu Zoo, stealing hearts and drawing eager crowds.
Weighing only 11 pounds and measuring 11–16 inches long, these fluffy little cubs kept visitors glued to the spot, some waiting more than an hour just to catch a glimpse of them.
White Bengal tigers, with their stunning pale coats caused by a rare genetic trait, are extremely scarce in the wild but remain star attractions in zoos worldwide.
Architect Yusuke Terada, visiting the zoo, shared his delight:
“Seeing these tiny babies was exhilarating. Watching three of them play while their mother looked on, I thought, what a beautiful little family.”
Though the cubs are still nursing, they’ve begun showing curiosity toward the meat their mother prefers. Their father, Rocky, is just getting acquainted with his offspring from a neighboring enclosure.
Zookeeper Hiroki Itakura explained:
“At first, he looked puzzled, like, ‘What are these?’ He might not even recognize them as fellow white tigers yet.”
White tigers are a rare recessive variation of Bengal tigers and tend to be larger than their standard-colored relatives. While hundreds have been bred in captivity, conservationists emphasize the importance of focusing on less inbred tiger species that are critically endangered.
